Looking Ahead at What God Might Be Doing Through the Tables
This week brought one of those moments that felt small on the surface, but huge in the heart.
We’ve been out on the streets for about ten months now —
serving thousands of hotdogs (yes, actually thousands), handing out socks, cookies, hot chocolate, blankets, and sharing countless conversations.
We’ve seen joy, heartbreak, setbacks, breakthroughs, and God’s grace in every direction.
But this week was different.
For the first time ever, our second table — the Welland table — ran without Joey or me being there.
Not because we’re stepping back.
Not because we’re done.
We plan on being there as often as possible — this work is deeply personal to us.
But seeing the Welland table operate without us felt like one of those moments when God leans in and whispers:
“See? This is bigger than you. This is Mine. And I can grow it.”
A Beautiful Kind of Strange
I won’t lie — it felt strange.
Kind of like letting go of the bike seat for the first time.
Or watching your child drive off alone for the first time.
You’re proud.
A little anxious.
But mostly… deeply grateful.
A huge thank you to Al and his family for stepping in and carrying the evening with so much heart.
Everything ran exactly as it should:
- same distribution center,
- same supplies,
- same framework we’ve built,
- same heart for the guests,
just different hands serving.
And that was the moment that sank in:
this ministry doesn’t depend on any one person.
It depends entirely on the Lord.
God Keeps Providing… More Than Expected
In the last few months, God has provided far beyond what we imagined:
- food,
- blankets,
- clothing,
- materials,
- and an amazing amount of practical support.
Honestly, the amount of help we’ve received is enough that we could support:
- another table,
- another location,
- another night,
or whatever direction God leads.
We’re not dreaming big out of ambition —
we’re simply looking at what God has already placed in our hands.
He’s given the infrastructure.
He’s given the resources.
He’s shown the need.
So now we’re praying:
“Lord, what do You want to do next?”
What We Need Now
The supplies are here.
The systems are built.
The need is everywhere.
What’s missing?
Laborers.
People willing to show up,
stand in the cold,
hand out warm drinks,
listen,
pray,
and care.
Not perfectly.
Not flawlessly.
Just faithfully.
Jesus told us exactly what to pray for:
“The harvest is plentiful, but the laborers are few.” — Matthew 9:37 (ESV)
And that feels especially true right now.
Looking Ahead
This wasn’t a shift away from Welland —
it was a shift forward.
A glimpse of how God might expand this ministry
beyond anything we imagined when we set out with one table and a prayer.
We’re still learning.
Still praying.
Still trusting.
Still showing up.
And if you’ve been wondering whether there’s a place for you…
there is.
Maybe this is your nudge.
Maybe this is your moment to step in.
Maybe God is already preparing the next location,
the next night,
the next team —
and maybe He’s preparing you to be part of it.
We can’t wait to see what He does next.
And we’re grateful that we get to play even a small part in His plan.
